As little as one-tenth of an inch of rain can cause sewage to overflow into our rivers and streams. During the 2001 and 2002 recreational seasons—May 15-October 1—river advisories warning individuals to limit water contact due to sewage overflows were in effect more than 50 percent of the entire recreational season.
