In the 83 municipalities that make up the ALCOSAN service area, a sewer system inventory shows a total of 4,000 miles of sewer lines and an additional 4,000 miles of house laterals, the pipes that connect individual homes to the public sewer system. Municipalities must make significant improvements to their systems in order to manage the wet weather overflow problem.
