McLaughlin Run Interceptor Investigation
Communities Involved: Bethel Park Municipal Authority, Borough of Bridgeville, Township of Upper St. Clair
Project goal: To develop a multi-municipal study on the feasibility of utilizing existing sewer systems in conjunction with the ALCOSAN long-term wet weather control plan to eliminate wet weather overflows and basement flooding.
Project Summary: Determine the feasibility and practicality of improving and enhancing the existing sanitary sewer interceptor that traverses through Bridgeville so that it can carry all the flows from Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair’s portion of the McLaughlin Run Watershed to the ALCOSAN system. Full utilization of the existing interceptor through Bridgeville may serve to eliminate localized flooding of homes in Bridgeville, reduce or eliminate the need for flow equalization facilities with the upper reaches of the watershed, eliminate an existing sanitary sewer overflow, and encourage the concept of utilizing ALCOSAN’s Long Term-Control Plan as a regional plan for improving the sanitary sewer collection and treatment systems in the region.
