Investigation of Underground Abandoned Coal Mines as Storage Reservoirs for Wet Weather Overflows

Project Goal: To evaluate the feasibility to utilize abandoned mine voids for wet weather overflow storage.

 

Project Summary: Feasibility study to investigate if the concept of storage of wet weather sewer overflows in abandoned deep coal mines is applicable to the lower Chartiers Creek watershed communities.

Total Cost: $124,350

3 Rivers Wet Weather Grant Award: $24,350

Start Date: January 2002

Completion Date: Summer 2004
