Green Infrastructure Network

Founded in 2008, the Green Infrastructure Network (GIN) is an evolving and growing collaborative of over 80 voluntary organizations, universities, businesses, and government partners who recognize the benefits of using green infrastructure in managing Allegheny County’s stormwater problem.  The GIN encourages municipalities, sanitary authorities, and developers to prioritize the use of green infrastructure where feasible and cost-effective.

In particular, the GIN has focused its efforts on five areas of GI implementation.  These include:

  • a comparison of the economics of green and gray infrastructure;
  • demonstration project development;
  • evaluation of the technical feasibility of using GI in the Pittsburgh region;
  • policy, codes and regulations as they relate to GI; and
  • education and public outreach.

The Green Infrastructure Network is coordinated by 3 Rivers Wet Weather, and meetings are held quarterly. For more information or to be added to the Green Infrastructure Network e-mail list, contact 3 Rivers Wet Weather, info@3rww.org or 412-578-8375.
